The local goat known as Senduro goat was declared by the government of Indonesia in 2014 as a new genetic resource of local small ruminant that must be protected, preserved, improved and commercialized. This research aimed to perform phenotypic identification and genetic analysis by karyotyping. A field study on phenotypic and genetic characteristics of Senduro goat was done covering several villages of smallholder farms. The variables observed were the qualitative traits. The data included 211 bucks aged 1 to 4 years. The method of karyotyping used the G-banding technique and the software Genus Cyto Vision Image ver 4.5.1. Chromosome analysis was performed on four prospective male candidates selected. The results showed that the goats in the subdistrict of Senduro were dominated by white feather (62%) and not being polled (64%). The new breed of the Senduro goat has 30 pairs of chromosomes with 29 pairs of autosomes in acrocentric shape and a pair of sex chromosomes. Sex chromosomes in males are submetacentric for X and subtelocentric for Y chromosomes, whereas in female goats both X chromosomes are submetacentric. The chromosome analysis of male goat breeds showed normal karyotyping results, so it is recommended as a superior male candidate for both natural services and artificial insemination implementation. © 2018 Author(s).
