Abstract

A significant decrease in the living environment quality has been affected by the current rate of deforestation. Therefore, society is expected to realize that local wisdomcan help them deal with this deforestation issue. The local wisdom of Karampuangtribal community has been manifested in forest conservation knowledge. This ethnographic study aimed to explore the implementation forms local wisdomof the Karampuangtribal community in forest conservation. The research data were collected using a participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Findings indicate that various forms of Karampuanglocal wisdom are applied in forest conservation; they include Ale Karamak(the sacred forest),AjuDoti (the cursed tree), and AjuAjajingeng (the birth tree). These practices constitute a part of local knowledge that has been taught from generation to generation in this community. © EM International.
