In this study, we demonstrated the first utilization of a Nb2C/Fe3O4 composite as a saturable absorber (SA) drop-casted on an arc-shaped fiber, for ultrashort pulse generation in a holmium-doped fiber laser. The SA successfully generated stable, ultrashort pulses centered at 2.08 μm. The pulses had a fundamental repetition rate of 16.03 MHz and a pulse duration of 1.75 ps. To further enhance the output, the signal was amplified using a separate HDFL amplifier, resulting in an average power of 53.5 mW and a slightly broadened pulse duration of 5.03 ps, corresponding to a peak power of approximately 667.5 W. These findings demonstrate the potential of Nb2C/Fe3O4 composites for ultrafast laser generation and highlight their suitability for extending the capabilities of ultrashort fiber lasers into longer wavelength regions. © 2025 The Author(s).
