In this paper, we report the fabrication and characterization of silica/Fe2.18Zn0.82O4 nanocomposites used as doxorubicin anti-cancer drug carrier. Silica/Fe2.18Zn0.82O4 nanocomposites were synthesized by using coprecipitation method followed by tetraethyl-orthosilicate hydrolysis process. The synthesis products were characterized by means of XRD, XRF, FTIR, UV Vis, and SEM. XRD characterization resulted in particle size of 7.14 nm. The presence of Si and Zn in the samples was confirmed from XRF characterization result: 49.2% for Si and 14.1% for Zn. Furthermore, functional groups of FTIR results also detected Si-O-Si bond in the wavelength of 1023 and 1091 cm-1. Based on the analysis of drug loading, silica/Fe2.18Zn0.82O4 nanocomposites had exemplary absorbance for doxorubicin as an anti-cancer drug. The release profile of the drug also showed the possibility of its use in medical application since release kinetic indicated stable drug dose in a relatively long period. © 2020 American Institute of Physics Inc..
