Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the correlation between stress and cybersex activities among college students in Malang. This study uses a quantitative descriptive correlation method. The respondents in this study are 377 college students in Malang who had active cybersex activity. In this study, the data of respondents stress are collected by using stress scales compiled by the researcher. The result indicates that there are 271 individuals (71.88%) who have moderate stress levels and 191 individuals (50.7%) who have the risk of committing cybersex activities. Moreover, the result of the calculation using product-moment correlation shows there is a positive correlation (r = 0.207, p < 0.05, two tail) between stress and cybersex among college students of Malang. This reveals that the higher the stress experienced by college students in Malang, the higher is the likeliness for them to commit cybersex activities. In relation to this finding, the researcher suggests that the government should have a preventive policy, such as an internet policy that will help minimize the exposure of internet users to cybersex activities. In addition, it is imperative to provide psychoeducation to adolescents at schools, particularly on the topic of cybersex and its harmful effects. © 2020 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
