The amphibians diversity as bioindicator of aquatic ecosystem at sumber Taman, Malang, East Java

Abstract

Amphibians might play an essential role in maintaining ecosystem stability and could act as bio-indicators of environmental changes. The aquatic environment closely related to the amphibians' existency was at the water source area, such as Sumber Taman. Sumber Taman has been used as a tourist attraction, which has a beautiful view underwater. The changes in the ecosystem utility might affect the distribution of some organisms, especially amphibians. Thus, we need to understand the diversity and the community structure of amphibians to preserve and conserve the water sources. Visual Encounter Survey (VES) method was used to collect the data. Data analyses were measured to identified the diversity (H'), Evenness (E), and richness (R). Our study revealed, there were six species of amphibians found; the most dominant species was Chalcorana chalconata. The diversity was at medium level (1.1), as well as the E index. The community was unstable because there was C. chalconata as dominating species (0.6). Furthermore, the R index was relatively low (1.12). Some indicators which could be observed to explain an ecosystem change were the population declining and the species diversity. Therefore, we conclude that the ecosystem of Sumber Taman has begun to disrupt. © 2020 American Institute of Physics Inc.. All rights reserved.
