Improving students' cognitive and critical thinking skills through research-based cell division control module

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the implementation effectiveness of research-based cell division control modules on students' cognitive abilities and critical thinking skills. This research was a quasi-experimental study with the design of nonequivalent control group design. The population in this study were biology students of class 2018, Faculty of Science and Technology at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang with a sample of 56 students. This research used instruments that contain essay questions, critical thinking skills rubrics and syntactic implementation sheets. The collected data of both groups were analyzed and interpreted using unpaired t test. The results showed that there are significant differences in students' cognitive abilities and critical thinking skills in the experimental class and the control class with a significance value of p (= 0,000) <α (0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that the research-based cell division control module significantly improved students' cognitive abilities and critical thinking skills. © 2020 Author(s).
