Characteristics of crystal structure and microwave absorption of silica particles as the effect of sintering temperature

Abstract

The absorption of microwaves can be used as an outer layer of surface military aircraft and other important vehicles in terms of developing super-thin wave absorbent layers with perfect absorption results. I investigated the characteristics of microwave absorption of crystals structure and microwave absorption of silica particles as the effect of temperature. The Silica was used as the main ingredient, heated at temperatures of 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, and 1400 ºC for 5 hours. The samples were characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). The result revealed that XRD analysis confirms the formation of cristobalite low phase with reference code 00-076-0940 which has a cubic space symmetry with space group P41212 and lattice parameter a = 4.9964 Å. VNA on silica samples heated at a temperature of 1100 ºC for 5 hours resulted in the greatest reflection loss value of 36.4 dB at a frequency of 11.24 GHz. © 2020 American Institute of Physics Inc..
