Abstract

Electricity producers are sometimes unable to meet growing consumer needs. Therefore, additional power plants are needed to increase the power supply to consumers. Wind power plants can be used as a solution to this problem. The wind power plant can also act as a distributed generation (DG) with the aim of making the power plant directly connected to the distribution network and closer to consumers. This paper focuses on the Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) type wind power plant. However, the addition of new power plants can increase the level of short circuit current. This paper aims to analyze the impact of DFIG placement in electrical power systems to changes in short circuit current. In this paper using electrical power system IEEE 30 bus standard. The power system uses mesh topology. In the method section, several scenarios were created for DFIG placement. Each scenario has different placement for DFIG. Each scenario also provides different simulation results of short circuit current. All the simulation results are compared to find the best placement. The best DFIG placement is the scenario that has the smallest short circuit current level compared to all other scenarios. © 2020 IEEE.
