The utilization of leaves as traditional medicine by Dayak Desa community in Pakak Village, Kayan Hilir District, Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan, Indonesia has been a major practice in traditional healtcare system since long time. But the method of the utilization practice is not well documented. The knowledge of application of these traditional medicine is limited upto the older people and traditional practitioners. This study aimed to identify the utilization of the leaves as traditional medicine used by Dayak Desa community and its proper documentation. Questionnare survey methods was employed to collect data sets on medicinal plants used and the preparation and mode of application of each medicine. Snowball sampling method was utilized to select 100 informants. The in-depth questionnare sheets which contain various questions were used in this study. Data analysis was descriptive qualitative and quantitative in nature. During the survey 64 species from 42 families were recorded to be used under traditional healthcare system. Leaves of Rubiaceae family shows maximum contribution in terms of utilization (7.81%). Leaves of medicinal plants are mostly processed in boiled (48.44%), pounded (29.69%), and direct (12.5%) form. The processed leaves are used for drinking (43.75%), smearing (18.75%), and bathing (14.06%) purpose. Leaves are mostly utilised for the treatment of the internal diseases (51.56%) followed by external diseases (48.44%). This information is very important to be documented as preservation of local knowledge in terms of the utilization of leaves as traditional medicine in the Dayak Desa community. © 2021, Indian journals.
