One of the problems of the e-learning system is the instructional “one size fits all” approach, where the learning materials or contents offered are standardized equally for everyone and provided in a large quantity. These may stimulate unsuccessful learning in the online learning process. The learning materials should be customized and presented with a chunking strategy to overcome these problems. By accommodating to the students’ needs, personalized learning in elearning environments will be promoted. This research applied a fuzzy logic system to determine the learning materials that are suitable for student needs based on their prior knowledge. The research methodology was a design-based research approach, as a practical research methodology could effectively bridge the chasm between research and practice in education settings.
