Using the 5E learning cycle with formative e-assessment to enhancement students' concept

Abstract

The process of formative assessment on learning is very potential to improve students' concept. Nowadays, the coronavirus disease's deployment should be done at home, so it needs another effort to apply the formative assessment. In this case, we analyzed students' concept with the 5E learning cycle integrated formative e-assessment. The subjects of this study consisted of 31 students in one private high school in Malang, Indonesia. This research uses mixed-method with embedded experimental design. Multiple choice with reasons instruments used to measure students' concept before and after learning. The results showed development in students' concepts characterized by an average normalized-gain value of 0.56 and an effect size of 0.70. The integration of formative e-assessment is recommended to monitor students learning progress. © 2021 Author(s).
