One of the topics in the area of the redox reaction, which is considered difficult for many students, is the determination of the atomic oxidation number. To cope with the issue, students should be involved effectively in teaching and learning. Students Team Achievement Division (STAD) is a teaching model involving students effectively and is student-centered learning. However, teamwork in STAD is not always working well because some members do not participate optimally. This phenomenon could be avoided by integrating STAD and NHT (Numbered Head Together) models. STAD-NHT models emphasize team works and demand an individual responsibility to master the concepts. A quasi-experiment with a posttest only control group design was applied in the study. Descriptive and statistical tests were employed for data analysis. This study showed that the achievement of students experiencing the STAD-NHT model was higher than that for students experiencing the STAD model. © 2021 Author(s).
