Abstract

As the population increases, technology develops, and the increase in income per capita makes the growth of the electricity load increase. The placement of renewable energy into the electric power system is very useful in supporting the availability of electrical power supply to the increasing load requirements. However, the addition of renewable energy into the electric power system can change the previous power flow. Therefore, this paper aims to analyze changes in power flow when renewable energy is interconnected with an electric power system. The placement of renewable energy is made into 2 types of topologies. The first type is assigned as distributed generation and the second type is assigned as centralized generation. Each type of topology produces a different power flow. The length of the line and the distance of the load that is far from the generator causes greater power losses compared to renewable energy which is located close to the load. Renewable energy that is placed scattered in certain areas can experience a power shortage when serving loads in that area, so it still needs to supply electrical power from renewable energy that is located far from the area. Based on these statements, the research in this paper is useful as a basis for consideration in the placement of renewable energy so that the power flowing to the load is not reduced much due to power losses. © 2021 IEEE.
