Abstract

The role of producers in addition to generating and distributing electrical power is to maintain the quality of electric power as well. One of the problems of the quality of electric power that often occurs is the emergence of high harmonics. The tolerance limit for Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) that is allowed in the electric power system is not more than the IEEE 519-1992 standard. THD more than the standard can potentially damage the equipment in the electric power system. The equipment that is most often damaged is the transformer. Harmonics can cause the transformer windings to heat up quickly even though the transformer is serving a load under normal conditions. The novelty of this paper is to test the performance of passive harmonic filters and detuned reactors to reduce THD at high voltage levels. In this paper, 2 transformers are used. The first transformer changes from high voltage to medium voltage, while the second transformer changes from medium voltage to low voltage. The value of K factor on the transformer is also analyzed under conditions before and after the passive harmonic filter and detuned reactor are installed. © 2021 IEEE.
