Abstract

The gold extraction process using the cyanidation method has a negative impact on the surrounding environment, including agricultural areas. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of variations in growing media on growth and cyanide uptake in the roots, stems, leaves, and fruit of yardlong beans. This experimental study used a Randomized Block Design (RBD), with a comparison of the percentage of mining soil and katel sand, namely A (100% katel), B (20%: 80%), C (40%: 60%), D (60%: 40%), E (80%: 20%) with 5 replications. The results showed that there were differences in the influence of the planting medium on the growth of stem height, number of leaves, and dry weight. Media A has the highest growth and is significantly different from other media. Media B was not significantly different from C. The lowest growth was medium D and E. Cyanide uptake at C was higher and significantly different from medium A on stems, roots, leaves with age 1, 2, 3, and 4 months, for fruit was not significantly different. The cyanide uptake is inversely proportional to the growth of yardlong beans. © 2021 Author(s).
