Abstract

Gamification is one of the topics that is currently being discussed again since the online learning policy was implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic. One thing that has caught the attention of researchers is the growing popularity of Discord. An application originally created for communication in online games is currently being converted to support online learning activities. Thus, this paper examines the gamification process of Discord in the realm of education by reviewing various papers on the use of Discord for learning purposes. The result shows that Discord, which was initially intended for gaming purposes, can assist online learning. Moreover, Discord's gamification process does not lie in the general components such as points, leaderboards, and badges, but in how this application can create a dynamic-gaming atmosphere for students, just like when they are playing online games. © 2021 IEEE.
