Chemistry is created based on process how scientists work and think to understand a phenomenon or problem that occurs in real world. It was gained by physical and mental activity it's often called science based on investigation or inquiry. Therefore, learning of chemistry is gained through inquiry thinking. Many inquiry-based learning strategies have been developed, one of them is OE3R (Orientation-Exploration-Explanation-Elaboration-Reflection) strategy. The purpose of implementation of OE3R strategy on Fundamental of Analytical Chemistry course to determine effectiveness of the model to increase students' critical thinking skills that is needed in 21st Century. This study used quasi-experiment pretest-posttest design with different treatment for each groups. The sample was students who are take program Fundamental Analytical Chemistry subject. Sample was selected by convenience sampling technique. The sample was divided into two, namely experiment group was learned by OE3R strategy, and control group was learned by conventional strategy using lecture method. Effectiveness test of strategy was measured by gain score test. Enhancement of students' critical thinking skills achievement is gained from the score average and total of students who they pass or not before and after learn using OE3R strategy. The results showed that effectiveness score of OE3R strategy implementation in experimental group is 63% (effective enough category), while in control group score is 49% (less effective category). Average posttest score of students' critical thinking skills in experimental group (71) higher than control group (62). Furthermore, it is found an enhancement of students' critical thinking skills achievement before and after learning by OE3R strategy. Students' critical thinking skills score before taught by OE3R strategy is 21, while after that is 71. Based on the results, OE3R strategy as inquiry-based learning innovation effective to increase students' critical thinking skills in Fundamental of Analytical Chemistry course. © 2021 Author(s).
