How two stay-two stray and Jigsaw learning models affect students' achievement on redox reaction

Abstract

Two Stay-Two Stray and Jigsaw are the cooperative learning types emphasizing in team works and individual participation in the group. Students are actively involved in the learning activity and may lead to a positive impact on their cognitive learning outcome on the topic of the redox reaction. This study aimed to: (1) describe the implementation of Two Stay-Two Stray and Jigsaw learning model on the topic of the redox reaction, (2) investigate the difference in students' cognitive achievement on the topic of redox reaction between students experiencing Two Stay-Two Stray model and those experiencing Jigsaw. A quasi-experimental design with post-test design only with random cluster sampling was applied in the study. Data on students' cognitive achievement was obtained from the result of the test with 30 valid and reliable (r = 0.923) questions. The results showed that: (1) both Two Stay-Two Stray and Jigsaw model were implemented in an appropriate manner falling in the very good category with 98,04% for Two Stay-Two Stray and 100% for Jigsaw, (2) there was no significant difference on the students' cognitive achievement between the two groups of students experiencing the two different learning models. © 2021 Author(s).
