The need for materials in construction is very high, so it is necessary to study the mechanical properties and behavior of structural elements. The application of cold formed steel (CFS) as a column is an innovation that needs to be investigated for its behavior. Fast processing, and light weight are the main reasons for the use of cold formed steel materials. However, this material has structural limitations of local buckling. This study uses a bidirectional C cross-section profile, and a stiffener in the middle of the rod to reduce local buckling. This study aims to obtain the compressive strength and lateral deformation. The test object used is a CFS column with varying lengths of 150 cm, 180 cm and 210 cm with a stiffener ratio of 1/3L. The second variation is the ratio of stiffener to column length of 1/2 L, 1/3 L, 1/6 L on a column length of 180 cm. The results showed that a higher ratio of stiffener to the length of the compression member resulted in a higher compressive strength. In addition, the lateral deformation is increased due to the longer bar and smaller stiffening ratio. © 2021 Author(s).
