Halal tourism has recently become an open industry development that attracts scholars to study, analyze, and research. A few systematic reviews were conducted in this area. This study aimed to investigate the existing literature regarding halal tourism development strategies. This study used a systematic literature review and thematic analysis for the data analysis. PRISMA (preferred reporting items for systematic literature review) was adopted as a guide in this systematic literature review with primary data collected from the Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases. Based on 25 selected articles, this study identified four main halal tourism development strategies including marketing strategy, customer behavior, halal tourism products and services, and business processes. The current paper systematically reviewed all relevant literature to fill the gaps by analyzing the growing evidence on halal tourism development strategies. The challenges and prospects of halal tourism were also highlighted. © 2022 AJHTL /Author(s) | Open Access – Online @ www.ajhtl.com
