Abstract

Behavioral economics is a branch of economics that examines human behavior in economic decision-making, challenging the conventional assumption that individuals always act rationally to maximize utility. In practice, economic decisions are often influenced by cognitive biases, emotions, social context, and inconsistent preferences over time. This study aims to explore the development, structure, and key areas of discussion within the field of behavioral economics. By employing a bibliometric approach, this research analyzes academic publications that include the term "behavioral economics" in their titles and keywords. Data were extracted from the Scopus database for the period between 2013 and 2022 using the Publish or Perish application, and visualized through VOSviewer software. The analysis identifies research clusters, co-occurrence of keywords, and thematic trends, providing a comprehensive mapping of the conceptual landscape. The findings offer valuable insights into the evolution of behavioral economics and serve as a reference point for scholars seeking to explore future research opportunities in this interdisciplinary field. © 2026, SRAC - Romanian Society for Quality.
