Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the mechanical characteristics of bamboo reinforced precast concrete columns. The independent variable of this research is the number of bamboos in the column cross section. The specimens consisted of 3 reinforced concrete columns with concrete compressive strength (fc') of 27.5 MPa, ultimate tensile strength of bamboo (fy) is 103.7 MPa, yield strength of steel reinforcement (fy) is 439 MPa and yield strength of steel plate (fy) is 421 MPa. The dimensions of column cross section were 30cm x 30cm. Variation in the number of bamboos culm 1, 2, and 4 in the column section. The purpose of using bamboos column in the cross section of this column is to reduce the weight of the column and simultaneously use bamboos instead of steel reinforcement. The type of bamboo in this study was petung bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper) aged 3 years old and older with a diameter of 12cm. In addition to using bamboos column as the main reinforcement, 4 pieces of 10mm diameter steel reinforcement were also placed on the 4 corners of each column. For shear reinforcement used closed stirrups with a diameter of 8 mm. Horizontal quasi cyclic load was applied at the end of the column as the simulation of earthquake loads. From the results of this study it can be concluded that the optimum number of bamboo used in column are two bamboos. However, further investigations still be needed for another type and size of bamboo. © 2021 Author(s).
