Abstract

In this paper, a cooperative inventory model for supply chain system under emission reduction and energy usage is formulated. The system consists of a manufacturer who acts as producer or remanufacturer and a buyer who acts as seller of end products. Carbon emissions are released from some activities, i.e. production, waste disposal, transportation, and storage. Electrical energy is consumed by manufacturing system to perform the production and remanufacturing. The model is developed mathematically with the aim of minimizing the total cost. The proposed model is solved by using the combination of analytical approach and an iterative procedure. The results suggest the decision maker to control the review period, shipment frequency and safety factor carefully when the system faces variations in production rate, carbon tax and the demand. Furthermore, we observe that the production rate and carbon tax are the most influential parameters on the level of emissions produced by the system. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2023.
