Abstract

This study proposed developing a wireless network that monitors patients’ vital signs using the Top-Down methodology. The project begins by giving a general overview of a current problem and showing a solution from the telecommunications environment. Ultimately, it should provide a practical and efficient solution through an IoT architecture. We seek to establish how a network of this type can improve response times and, consequently, the internal processes of the organization so that doctors who would be one of the end-users benefits can have an improvement in the process of monitoring vital signs of patients under their care since they will have the facility to validate this information from anywhere in the clinic. The network will allow the convergence of the data collected by the various clinical monitoring equipment. This would enable storing the data of each patient, and this could help the medical staff make decisions more agilely and receive timely alerts when the patient’s vital signs are altered. The information of all monitored patients would help managers make decisions regarding the improvement or adjustment of internal processes, patient treatments, and others. The data would be centralized to generate different statistics, allowing a clear picture of the capacity status and future or possible saturation in care. Finally, a functional prototype of a wireless network based on IoT will be delivered, allowing the implementation of new network trends such as SDWN. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
