Development of augmented reality-based learning materials on redox reaction materials for students in basic chemistry II course

Abstract

The industrial revolution led to the development of technology in various fields including education. Technology can assist in the manufacture of innovative teaching materials such as Augmented Reality (AR) technology. AR is able to display images through the scanning process using a smartphone device. Redox reaction material in Basic Chemistry II course requires a more realistic visualization to explain the occurrence of the reaction. This study aims to develop a product in the form of Augmented Reality-assisted teaching materials on redox reaction materials that are suitable for use in lectures. This research includes research and development with stages ranging from analysis, design, development and evaluation. Several validation tests were carried out on the product, namely in terms of material, media and readability to students. The results of the research are teaching materials products in the form of a Redox Reaction book and application software called Chem AR with the percentage of validation in terms of material, media and readability respectively 93.75%, 94.28% and 90.5%. It can be concluded that the teaching materials that have been developed are declared very suitable for use in basic Chemistry II lectures. It is recommended for further research to test the effectiveness and development of other materials. © 2022 Author(s).
