Human lifestyles cause some environmental problems. The 21st century requires critical thinking skills for the sustainability of ecological conservation. Based on a previous study, students' critical thinking skills in Malang City are low. This study aims to determine the potency of the research-based ecosystem and water pollution electronic modules implemented in the Problem-based Learning (PBL) approach on students' critical thinking skills. This research was a quasi-experimental study with the design of pretest-posttest control group design. The population of this research is the students of grade X MIPA SMAN 8 Malang, with a research sample of 58 students grouped into an equal number of the experimental and control group. Critical thinking skills were measured using a critical thinking rubric. Students' achievement data was taken from pre- and post-test was analyzed using unpaired t-test. The analysis results showed that the experimental group gains significantly higher critical thinking scores than the control group (0.000 < 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that this research-based ecosystem and water pollution developed electronic module significantly develop students' critical thinking and its indicators. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc..
