Abstract

Biogas is one of the alternative renewable energy. In biogas production, impurities are always found in the product. Therefore, biogas needs to be purified. Adsorption is an alternative method to refine biogas. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of mass variations of activated natural zeolite and silica on adsorption capacity and to determine the effect of starter application on biogas pressure. This research consists of 4 stages. (1) manufacture of biogas purification equipment, (2) activation of natural zeolite and silica, (3) purification of biogas from CO2 and H2O, (4) characterization of biogas before and after the purification process. The results showed the best variation of activated natural zeolite and silica adsorbent at a ratio of 1:1 for 60 minutes. This result was known through the precipitation technique where the water content remaining after purification was at least 1.74 gram and the carbon dioxide content was at least 1.3 gram. The addition of a starter has the effect of increasing the pressure on biogas production. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc.. All rights reserved.
