Student Perceptions of a TPACK-Integrated Virtual Classroom for Genetics Instruction

Abstract

The digital revolution and the COVID-19 pandemic are reshaping the educational and learning landscape. The learning process has shifted dramatically from being offline to being entirely online. Two semesters of virtual learning have been conducted at universities in Indonesia. Universitas Negeri Malang, for example, has implemented a virtual classroom program for its Genetics course. This study aimed to know student perceptions of the need for a TPACK-integrated virtual classroom for Genetics instruction. This study used a descriptive approach. The data were gathered using a questionnaire administered online via Google Form to 94 students enrolled in the Genetics course at the Department of Biology at Universitas Negeri Malang. Data analysis is a descriptive analysis. Student perceptions state that students regard Genetics as one of the most challenging subjects to grasp, whether when taught offline or online. Students believe that an integrated TPACK virtual classroom is critical for studying Genetics and can aid in the development of their 21st-century skills. According to student perceptions, a TPACK-integrated virtual classroom is required for Genetics instruction during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc..
