Abstract

The level of reliability of an electric power system must meet technical standards and must be able to cope with disturbances that can occur at any time. Short circuit current disturbance is one of the most common disturbances in an electric power system. The disturbances that occur are usually caused by short circuit faults from phase to ground or short circuit faults between phases. Many factors cause short circuit current disturbances, including human error or negligence, disturbances from within the system such as obsolete equipment, as well as disturbances from natural factors such as being hit by a lightning strike, being hit by a fallen tree, and so on. As was the case at the Pecangakan of ULP NEGARA, to overcome this, an analysis of short circuit faults needs to be carried out in order to determine a protection system. By studying the contribution of the fault current flowing at the time of the disturbance. One tool that can reduce short circuit current disturbance is the Fault Current Limiter (FCL). However, it is necessary to evaluate the capacity of the current-limiting reactor to be used so as not to cause negative impacts, one of which is the occurrence of a voltage drop. By calculating the FCL capacity, the short circuit current disturbance that occurs can be reduced with the FCL rating that has been calculated according to the value of the fault current that occurs. The results After installing the FCL, the short circuit current disturbance on each bus was shown to decrease between 52.4%-98% for each bus. © 2023 IEEE.
