Acid-Base Properties of Salt Solution: Study at a Secondary School in Banyuwangi

Abstract

This study aimed to identify students' understanding and misconceptions about the acid-base properties of salt solution. A valid and reliable four-tier instrument was employed. This study involved two groups of students from two secondary schools in the Regency of Banyuwangi, East Java. The study revealed that students' understanding of the topic falls in the low category. In addition, several misconceptions were also revealed, including (1) salt derived from a weak acid and weak base don't hydrolyze, (2) salt derived from a strong acid and strong base hydrolyze, (3) neutral salt is produced due to the same number of the cation and anion in the solution. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc..
