Abstract

This research is aimed to describe students problem solving ability based on cognitive style in solving systems of linear equations in two variables. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects in this research are grade 8th Junior High School students. The research was started by giving cognitive style test continued by giving mathematical problem solving test and interview. The data analysis techniques used were data reduction (data reduction), data presentation (data display) and drawing conclusions (verification). The results shows that subjects with Field Independent cognitive style were able to go through each step of problem solving well, while subjects with Field Dependent cognitive style were only able to go through one step of problem solving well, that was understanding the problem but not complete yet. After getting new directions, they could explain what was known from the question and what was being asked completely. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc.. All rights reserved.
