Water is a vital natural resource for all species’ life, so it needs to be utilized efficiently. Any parameters such as physics, chemistry, or biology can affect the use of water for any purpose, including in aquaculture activities. Good water governance ensures effective management of water resources. So an integrated water resources management (IWRM) approach aims to manage and develop water resources to maximize the carrying capacity of waters in fish-farming activities. Monitoring various aspects of water quality in water resource management in real time can take advantage of using the Internet of Things (IoT). The IoT system should enable automated decision-making to control water quality factors measured with sensors set within tolerable limits and store historical monitoring results on a cloud-based platform. The IoT systems can be accessed from anywhere via the internet, via mobile applications remotely. However, a challenge that is often faced by systems such as IoT is the sensitivity of the sensor in reading the results of water quality monitoring so that the accuracy of monitoring using IoT to support the IWRM that is built will be optimal and sustainable. © 2023 selection and editorial matter, Alaa El Din Mahmoud, Manal Fawzy, and Nadeem Ahmad Khan.
