Bimetallic or binary oxide materials NiCo2O4have unique characteristics and can be utilized extensively in the medic, energy, and environment. In this study, the surface of NiCo2O4has been successfully synthesized by using 3-mercaptopropionic acid (MPA), so it has different stability and properties. Synthesis of NiCo2O4binary oxide and surface functionalization with MPA was successfully carried out by the co-precipitation method. NiCo2O4nanoparticle have been characterized by using FTIR, XRD, SEM, and EDAX instrument to determine functional group, nanostructure, morphology and elemental composition, respectively. Functionalization was proven to reduce the size of NiCo2O4nanoparticles from 9.42 nm to 8.22 nm. In addition, the functionalization of NiCo2O4causes the agglomerate of particles based on the results of SEM characterization. Mapping of NiCo2O4-MPA shows the distribution of each atom Ni, Co, O, and S spread equally. The presence of weight elemental sulfur in EDAX characterization revealed the surface functionalization process on NiCo2O4 © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc.. All rights reserved.
