Abstract

This study reports the development of MnFe2O4 ferrofluid with a surfactant of PVA for the magnetic sensor. The MnFe2O4/PVA ferrofluid filler has been synthesized using the co-precipitation method. The results of X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) confirmed the magnetite phase of ferrofluid filler with inverse spinel cubic structure, in which a number of Mn2+ replace the ion Fe+. The lattice parameters of MnFe2O4/PVA were a = b = c = 8.414 Å, respectively. Meanwhile, the formed crystallite size was around 8.4 nm. The Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectroscopy (FTIR) results showed a specific bond between Mn and Fe-O within the MnFe2O4 at wavenumbers of 500-750 cm-1. Besides, the addition of PVA induced the appearance of the new functional group of C-H, C-C, and CH2 at wavenumbers of 1502, 1353, and 856 cm-1, respectively. The SEM characterization results suggested the spherical shape of the particles with an average particle size of 39 nm. Interestingly, the MnFe2O4/PVA ferrofluid also presented an increasing light intensity level following the enhanced magnetic field. Therefore, MnFe2O4/PVA carries the potential as the magnetic sensor. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc.. All rights reserved.
