This study is intended to examine the influence of entrepreneurship education (EE) on entrepreneurial intention (EI) and its impact on entrepreneurial career choice (ECC) among university students in Indonesia through self-efficacy (SE) and proactivity. The data were taken from 332 university students from several educational-based universities in Indonesia. The analysis technique adopted a covariance-based structural equation modeling to confirm the proposed hypothesis. The findings of this study indicate that EE has been shown to predict of EI, proactivity, and SE. However, it cannot directly explain ECC among university students. This study also reveals that SE and proactivity can directly influence EI and indirectly play a role as mediators for EE and EI. The serial mediation occurs in the study to explain a path between EE and ECC. This study raises the implication to consider some bridges, such as SE and EI, as an effort to promote ECC for students. © 2026 Elsevier Ltd
