The process of making various kinds of metal products is very meaningful to increase the competitiveness of the national economy. The manufacturing industry in Indonesia on a global scale is ranked 9th with a value of 4.5%. One of the industries that play an important role in the metal industry is the lathe process. This process has some mechanical drawbacks, such as tool wear and workpiece surface roughness. In this study, a mist cooling system was chosen to minimize losses in the use of tungsten disulfide as a solid lubricant. The use of tungsten disulfide can reduce the cutting force, and cutting temperature. Through the mist cooling system, variations in the levels of tungsten disulfide in the turning results of ST 60 steel workpieces were used to study tool wear and workpiece surface roughness. This research was conducted through a turning process with feeding variations of 0.2, 0.4, and 0.8 mm/rev, spindle speed 250, 370, and 630 rpm, and wolfram disulfide 1, 2, and 3 grams. Measurement of workpiece surface roughness using Surface Roughness Test. The Taguchi method will be used in this study using three levels (L9), the Taguchi use lower is better. The results showed that the level of tungsten disulfide had more effect on tool wear than on surface roughness. Based on the results of surface roughness results show that by using the feeding parameters 0.2 mm/rev, the spindle speed is 630 rpm and the Wolfram disulfide 2 grams is 3.57 µm. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc..
