POE-based ILM equipped exercises with constructive feedback: An alternative in online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic

Abstract

This study aims to see the effectiveness of using Predict, Observe, and Explain (POE)-Based Interactive Learning Media (ILM) equipped exercises with constructive feedback. The focus of this research is on the topic of fluid dynamics. This research is a mixed method research with Embedded Experimental Model research design. This research was conducted on 62 students. The research instrument consisted of 20 reasoned MCSs. Quantitative data were analyzed by paired sample t test analysis, N-gain, and d-effect size. Qualitative data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman technique. The results showed that the understanding of the concept of fluid dynamics was significantly different. N-gain = 0.493 indicates that the increase in understanding of concepts in the medium high category and d-effect size=1.601 indicates that the effect of learning in improving understanding of concepts is in the strong category. Although on all questions there has been an increase in the number of students who answered correctly, we still found students' difficulties in performing calculations using Bernoulli's law equation, especially in determining the reference point to determine h in the ρgh term. We need to give more practice to students in doing mathematical analysis and determining reference points in future research. © 2023 Author(s).
