Abstract

This study investigates the integration of Differentiated Instruction into Project-Based Learning and its implications for collaborative learning and student motivation in Arabic Language Education. The research addresses the dominance of conventional methods—grammar-translation and lecture-based teaching—that fail to accommodate learner diversity and consequently reduce intrinsic motivation. Anchored in constructivist and self-determination theories, this study employs a mixed-methods approach involving 72 undergraduate Arabic pedagogy students. Quantitative data were collected using validated motivation and collaboration scales, analyzed via paired-sample t-tests to measure significant pre/post-intervention changes. Qualitative data from classroom observations and semi-structured interviews were thematically coded. The findings reveal that integrating Differentiated Instruction into Project-Based Learning fosters substantial improvement in both collaborative behavior and motivation, particularly in task value, self-efficacy, and social interdependence. Students demonstrated greater ownership when tasks were differentiated according to their readiness levels, interests, and linguistic profiles. This research contributes an empirically grounded pedagogical model for Arabic Language Education, aligning inclusive, student-centered strategies with collaborative Project-Based Learning. It recommends future exploration of Differentiated Instruction-Project-Based Learning integration across digital and multilingual contexts to extend its applicability in the evolving landscape of Arabic education. © 2026 Adam MUDINILLAH, Punaji SETYOSARI, Henry PRAHERDHIONO, Saida ULFA & Made Duananda Kartika DEGENG.
