Urban Heat Island (UHI) is a condition of increasing temperature in the atmosphere and usually occurs in urban areas. One of the main factors for the emergence of the urban heat island phenomenon is human activities related to greenhouse gas emissions. During the Covid-19 pandemic, urban heat island information is useful for knowing the spatial distribution pattern of cases and the characteristics of Covid-19 transmission. This study aims to analyze the spatial temporal pattern of urban heat island in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic and during the covid pandemic. This study uses a thermal channel on Landsat 8 with three different recording time periods to determine the UHI phenomenon in Malang. Furthermore, a spatial analysis of UHI changes was carried out at the beginning of the case, at the beginning of the limitation of community activities and at the peak of the case. The spatial distribution of UHI at the beginning of the emergence of Covid-19 was intensively in the city centre and decreased towards suburb. At the same time, the temporal distribution shows that some areas have increased but also decreased land surface temperatures. © 2023 Author(s).
