Abstract

In the fight against COVID-19, reducing unnecessary human contact and ensuring safety is crucial. This project introduces the Automated Smart Dustbin (AuDust), designed to minimize infection at crowded area such as stadium and other sports arena. AuDust, equipped with sensors and controlled by Arduino, opens without touch when detecting motion. It enhances safety for healthcare workers, patients, and frontliners by offering contactless waste disposal. Originally created for hospitals, AuDust also has potential applications in sports venues. The method involves programming, 3D designs using Solidworks, and simulation with TinkerCAD. Ultrasonic sensors detect people and waste levels, triggering appropriate actions. Experiments show AuDust's effectiveness, providing a safer waste disposal method to reduce infection spread. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
