The effect of environmental cultural school (ECS) on the environmental attitude and behavior of school citizen in senior high schools of Malang Regency

Abstract

Environmental problems greatly affect the community. One solution to overcome environmental problems is through education that is integrated with environmental culture. Environmentally cultured schools aim to create a society that is knowledgeable about the environment, so that it will lead to pro-environmental behavior which is shown from the attitude towards the environment to maintain and care for the balance of the environment. This study aims to (a) describe the level of environmental literacy of ECS and regular Senior High School (SHS) residents (b) compare the level of environmental literacy based on ECS in Malang Regency. This study involved 100 respondents from ECS and regular SHS. Data were taken through a questionnaire using descriptive statistical methods with independent sample t-test to see the comparison of environmental literacy of Malang Regency Senior High School residents based on environmental-based schools. The results showed that the average level of pro-environmental behavior of the ECS high school residents (71.46) and regular high school (65.68) was in the high category and there was significant difference (0.00), the mean level of environmental attitudes of ECS high school residents (63.26) and regular high school (60.32) are in the high category and there is significant difference (0.00), the average level of environmental knowledge of ECS high school residents (10.18) and regular high school (9.66) is at low category and there is a significant difference (0.09). This is influenced by environmental culture schools that are implemented in everyday life. © 2023 Author(s).
