Abstract

Sugarcane is a key crop for sugar and biofuel production, supporting tropical economies, but is highly susceptible to diseases and pests that hinder its cultivation. This research focuses on developing an intelligent mobile application for early disease identification and educational support to empower farmers in improving productivity and economic stability. The study follows a structured four-phase framework: Preprocess Design (literature review and stakeholder interviews), Process Design (current condition analysis), Development (data architecture and UI design), and Post Design (implementation and testing). The resulting mobile app enhances farmers' understanding of plant diseases and management strategies using a forward chaining system that combines symptom facts and disease rules for accurate diagnosis. User satisfaction analysis indicates high scores for Responsiveness, Usability, and Error Handling, each exceeding 4.5, while lower ratings in Search (3.76) and Onboarding highlight areas for improvement. This research underscores the potential of smart mobile applications to support sugarcane farmers in disease management and knowledge enhancement, contributing to more effective cultivation practices and improved economic outcomes. By addressing the identified weaknesses in Search and Onboarding, the application has the potential to increase user engagement further and foster long-term loyalty among farmers. © 2024 IEEE.
