Mobile Augmented Reality Development for Culinary Learning Media through Design Thinking Method

Abstract

Cooking involves processing ingredients and seasonings to create various dishes which are guided by recipes. Modern recipes provide step-by-step instructions and ingredient lists. While many recipes are available online, few incorporate Augmented Reality (AR) to enhance the cooking experience. The Masak.In app aims to fill this gap by using mobile AR to display detailed food information on smartphones via provided markers. Developed using the design thinking method, this app minimizes errors and caters to modern society's demand for mobility, simplicity, and efficiency. In the development process, the Masak.In application uses the design thinking method, which is an innovative and creative approach to solving problems by understanding user needs. In the design thinking method, there are five stages, including empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. This approach is centered on human behavior, so the solution provided will certainly be more relevant. Based on the results of the Masak.In application test on media expert validation, a score of 82% was obtained for reliability, 80% for usability, 85% for a tool kit, 82% for compatibility, and 82% for documentation. So that an average score of 82% is obtained, which means that the Masak.In application has met the needs and comfort of users. This app's user-friendly navigation and Android interoperability make it accessible to contemporary users who value mobility, simplicity, and efficiency. The application has received a very good feasibility rating in media expert evaluations, requiring minimal modifications. © 2024 IEEE.
