The low decision-making ability of students is also experienced by most of the prospective teachers. The purpose of this study is to reveal the decision-making process carried out by prospective teachers in solving differential equations. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with 2 subjects taken from 21 prospective mathematics teacher students. Each subject was identified to solve differential equation problems correctly and incorrectly. Data collection was carried out through differential equation tests and test-based interviews. The results of the research show that the decision making carried out by students by solving the correct differential equation is: (1) Building ideas, the subject had two solutions and three solutions, right and wrong ideas. (2) Clarifying ideas, the subject gives reasons for each idea correctly and has the wrong reasons because they do not understand the concept. (3) Assessing the reasonableness of the idea, providing logical reasons with one correct choice and logical reasons with one but less precise choice. The results of this study provide suggestions for prospective teacher educators to continue to innovate in order to provide provisions for prospective mathematics teacher students so that they can make good decisions, especially in solving math problems. © 2024 Author(s).
