Abstract

This work analyzed the students' state-of-integration in high school geography classes through Spherical Video-Based Virtual Reality (SVVR) methodology, including biomes study. This gives students a more immersive medium to understand and visualize geographical content when regular or conventional methods can often fall short of doing so. The Design and Development Research (DDR) approach - including needs analysis, design/development, as well as assessment phases was used in this study. Next six separate experts confirmed the SVVR. A closed questionnaire was used for the product evaluation, with all categories of measurement consistently scored highly (mean: 3.34 out of greater than or equal to) and statistically different from zero (83.58% on a grade range). Assessment results showed there a student engagement increase, and hard geography themes benefit from the student's immersion into SVVR. The study discusses the use of immersive learning technologies in teaching and provides an example of how SVVR can be fitted into a high school geography curriculum. © 2024 IEEE.
