Utilization of Marble Waste as a Filler in Asphalt-sand Sheet in Road Pavement

Abstract

Marble waste is usually discarded and becomes an environmental problem. The utilization of marble waste as a filler in road pavement can be a solution. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the performance of the asphalt-sand sheet using marble waste filler in terms of Marshall parameters. This research includes material testing and making specimens with asphalt content of 7%, 7.5%, 8%, 8.5%, and 9%. Then carry out the Marshall test to get the value of Optimum Asphalt Content (KAO). Then make asphalt-sand sheet specimens by using marble waste filler with varying levels of successively 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% of the Portland cement filler weight, and perform the Marshall test. Marshall test results were analyzed based on the parameters, namely stability, void in the mix (VIM), void in mineral aggregate (VMA), void filled with asphalt (VFA), and Marshall immersion. The results of this study indicate that all Marshall parameter evaluations meet Indonesian specifications so that marble waste can be used as a filler in the asphalt-sand sheet. © 2024 American Institute of Physics Inc..
