Abstract

Dementia is a neurodegenerative disorder that leads to a decline in cognitive abilities such as memory, thinking, orientation, comprehension, and language. These impairments hinder the ability of individuals to carry out daily tasks, significantly affecting their quality of life. Given its progressive nature, dementia requires continuous and regular care, including strict adherence to medication schedules. However, due to cognitive impairments, dementia patients often struggle with medication adherence, which can result in treatment failure. Studies have highlighted that non-compliance with prescribed medications in dementia patients leads to 30-50% failure in treatment outcomes and a high mortality rate, with approximately 125,000 deaths annually.To address this challenge, a solution utilizing the Internet of Things (IoT) was developed: an automatic medicine dispenser for dementia patients. This system is designed to remind patients of their medication schedule, control dosages, and monitor compliance. By integrating IoT sensors and the Blynk application, this device ensures timely medication administration, allowing caregivers to monitor and control the process remotely. The use of Arduino IDE in programming and internet connectivity further simplifies the device’s operation, offering an effective and accessible solution for dementia care. ©2025 IEEE.
