Abstract

This research developed a Cobalt(II) ion adsorbent, Carboxymethyl kappa-carrageenan cross-linked nanomagnetite coated Bisphenol A Diglycidyl Ether (BADGE) for Magnetic Solid Phase Extraction (MSPE). This adsorbent consists of nanomagnetite as a core and a functional layer on the surface. The aim of this study was to synthesize carboxymethyl kappa-carrageenan (CMKC) coated nanomagnetite crosslinked with BADGE, as an adsorbent for Co(II) ions and test its ability to be used repeatedly. This study consisted of several step, the first step nanomagnetite synthesis and its characterization using SEM, FTIR, and XRD instruments, the second step, CMKC synthesis and its characterization using FTIR instruments, the third step, synthesis of CMKC-coated nanomagnetite cross-linked with BADGE, the results of the synthesis were characterized using FTIR instruments and SEM. The fourth step adsorbent was tested for its adsorption ability on water samples containing Co(II) ions. The CMKC-coated nanomagnetite crossed with BADGE which has been successfully synthesized has a rough, porous and pleated adsorbent surface. The FTIR peak spectrum of the adsorbent shows a shift in the C = O asymmetric vibration peak from 1634 cm-1 to 1646 cm-1 after the crosslinking process. The adsorption ability of BADGE cross-linked CMKC-coated nanomagnetite to adsorb Co(II) ions dissolved in water was 3.1 mg Co(II)/g adsorbent. Re-use of CMKC cross-linked coated nanomagnetite as adsorbent, reduced its adsorption capacity by 24%. capacity. © 2024 Author(s).
