The Role of Innovation in Mediating Green Intellectual Capital towards Sustainable SMEs

Abstract

Based on data analysis, the study objective is to empirically prove the role of innovation in mediating green intellectual capital consisting of green human capital, green structural capital, and green relational capital for sustainable SMEs. The study used a quantitative approach with a sample size of 223 SMEs. Data analysis uses smartPLSwith a measurement model, also called the outer model, and the structural model, also called the inner model. The results showed that green structural capital directly or through innovation mediation has a significant effect on sustainable SMEs, while green human capital and green relational capital directly or through innovation mediation do nothave significant effect on sustainable SMEs. Organizational structures that lead to environmentally friendly practices encourage SMEs to innovate in products, processes, marketing, and organizations which will have a positive impact on sustainable businesses. © 2025, SRAC - Romanian Society for Quality.
